WITHOUT MERCY: LENOX – DON´T TELL ME ABOUT “PUT TO SLEEP” “EUTHANIZED” – KILLED! EACH CREAUTRE FEARS THE DEATH!

The Lennox District tartan was reproduced from...

The Lennox District tartan was reproduced from two known copies of a lost portrait dating from the sixteenth century, which was claimed to be of the Countess of Lennox (mother of Henry Darnley who married Mary Stuart). The tartan was reproduced by D. W. Stewart in his book Old and Rare Scottish Tartans, published in 1893. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I have just been told that if we send emails requesting investigation INTO BCC that channel 4 will launch one if they get enough requests.

Use my sample letter, or create your own letter….
Dear sir, madam,

We, concerned people for all over the world, are asking you to please start an investigation into BCC regarding the Lennox case.
We strongly believe things have been covered up and the truth has not been told to the public.
We also believe that Lennox’s dog warden, Alexandra Lightfoot, lied under oath, stating Lennox was the most dangerous dog she had ever met, while video tapes show Lennox licking her face and being submissive to her.
We know we can’t bring Lennox back, but we do want to know what really happened in BCC and that the truth will come out.
Justice needs to be done and the truth needs to be told.
Therefor we plead you to investigate this case and bring out a news report.

For Lennox’s sake, for all innocent dogs sake.

We thank you.

Sincerely,
(your name and country)

Canadian Provincial Courts Fast Turnaround No Delays

Traps were laid in the wild illegally. When the bear was trapped, she lost not only her paws and four limbs for a good fortune of money, but she was locked up in the cage and had to endure daily torture of bile collection up to 25 or 30 years. This bile collection process requires a hole to be cut in the bear stomach and an iron pipe inserted into the bear gall bladder. Bile was then taken several times a day. The entire procedure was done without anaesthetic in order to save cost. The pain was excruciating. The bear could not bear it and attempted to kill herself by punching her stomach. However, human prevented this suicide act by forcing the bear to wear an iron vest. With this iron vest, her movement was restricted; committing suicide was an impossible task. A mother bear knew it too well. When the bear worker wanted to open up her cub’s stomach, the mother bear broke open the cage and went after the cub. After failing to release the chained cub, she hugged the cub. The mother bear then killed the cub to save it from a life of hell. Here is the story from Chinese news.

A friend asked me for a favour. He needed my assistance to manage a bear farm for a few days. The location was remote and unknown by many.

I reached there at night. It was just before dawn, but I was still not able to sleep. I could hear the wind blow, as if someone was weeping with pain and hopelessness. At that very moment, I heard the sound of the door moving and heavy breathing. I sat up, pulled to a stand and turned on the light. “Who is it?” There was no answer. The silence was terrifying.

I reached out and grabbed a broom. Gently, I walked to the door and with a quick pull, opened it. Ha ! It’s a bear cub curling up her body looking sheepishly as me. I extended my hands and the cub waddled towards me. She rested her small palms on my hands. Then she licked my hand with her warm and soft tongue. It was so heart-warming.

Suddenly, I heard commotion from far. The cub quickly went under my bed.

Then, there was a knock on the door.

I opened the door and asked, “What’s up?”

A man said, “A bear cub just escaped from the bear farm. Has it come to disturb you?”

“Oh, yes, there it is.” I pointed at the cub’s hiding place.

The man squat down and grabbed the cub with one hand. With such roughness, he pulled the bear out and tied her four limbs to a long wooden stick. They lifted the stick and the cub was carried away from the room. As she left, she turned and gave me a begging and pitiful look.

Iron Vest

After dawn, the worker on-duty, Zhang took me to see the bears. In a few thousand square meters wide and tall building, six cages were placed in an open space. In every cage, there laid a black and weary bear. What puzzled me was the shining metal around their bodies.

Zhang told me, “This iron vest is used to extract bile from the bear body. Now, the price of this bile is 300 yuan per gram.” He took me to the first cage, gesturing to me, “Let’s start the bile extraction.”

I saw two sturdy workers tied up the bear’s body and pulled, through a pulley, a rope that was connected to the iron vest. They shouted, “Hi….!” and I saw the bear’s body contracted as they pulled. Suddenly, the bear gave out a hysterical roar, “Woo….!”. That was not really a roar. It has changed to a desolate and sorrowful cry. Her eyes showed endurance of excruciating pain. With restricted movement and space, she tried to struggle with her four limbs, kicking the ground with, “Ze la, Ze la” sound, which was such a pain to hear. At that very instant, I could hear the dripping sound of liquid coming out from a steel pipe under the bear’s stomach.

The workers then slowly released the rope followed by another long hard pull, as they repeated the extraction procedure. Another hoarse cry was heard. I saw the tears drop from the bear’s eyes. Similar to how a human would response to pain; the bear clenched its teeth and bent its body. It was such a heart-breaking scene! I could not bear to watch any further. I turned and walked away.

At that moment, I suddenly realised, the moaning cry before dawn came from these tragic bears.

Zhang followed me to the door. With trembling voice, I asked him, “Have you lost your humanity? These are living things!”

Zhang dismissed it, “Not that we have any choice. This is how we earn a living.”

Calming down, I asked him with a heavy heart, “How often do you need to extract the bile?”

He replied, “That depends. If the bear has good supply of bile, we will do it once or twice a day. The bear with less bile will be performed once in two days. Generally, a bear can produce 2000g of bile annually for 10 years.”

I trembled. Twice a day for 10 years, these are monstrous numbers! The bear has to go through such deadly torture twice a day, living a life without hope, for 10 years; 7200 times of flesh piercing pain; enduring it day after day, year after year. Even if this happens to the strongest human, he will not be able to sustain it. My heart ached with pain.

I wanted to leave. Zhang said, “In a short while, a surgery will be performed on the cubs. You cannot leave at this critical moment. You are representing Mr. Liu. If you leave and something goes wrong, who is going to bear the responsibility?”

Reluctantly, I followed him back to the bear room. Under his instruction, four sturdy workers brought in a cub and tied it up with chain. The cub looked at everyone with horror. When she saw me, her eyes brightened up. The cub dropped to her knees and begged me. I felt tears in my eyes.

Zhang waved his hands, instructing the workers to start the surgery.

In great despair, the cub lifted her head and cried, “Wooo….” She burst into tears. It was the most sorrowful and soul-touching cry I have ever heard in my life. It was as if knowing the human language, the cub shouted out the word, “Mom….”. Even the workers were startled.

At that very moment, an extra-ordinary shocking scene took place. A bear in a cage let out a loud cry. With her large hands and all her strength, she pushed open the thick iron bar and jumped out of the cage. The workers were terrified and fled away immediately.

Startled, I didn’t move. It was as if my legs had grown lead and I was not able to move an inch. However, the bear ignored my presence. She rushed to the cub. With her large hands, in awkward movement, she frantically tried to release the cub from the chain. Despite her best effort, she failed to release the cub. So, she kissed the cub and nestled her in her arms with a heavy heart. She licked the cub’s tears lovingly, crying, “Hmm ..hmmm….” to soothe the cub. The cub cried out, “Hoooo….”, as if calling her mom, asking her for rescue.

Suddenly, the bear let out a loud cry. With her large hands, she strangled the cub’s neck with all her might. She roared as she strangled until the cub’s body fell to the ground. Then, she released her hands. Looking at her dead child, she whimpered, as if saying, ”My child, I cannot save you, but you are not going to suffer any more. I’m so sorry.”

She bit her own hair. Then, she grabbed the iron vest and pulled it off her body. Together with the vest, the metal pipe flew out of the gallbladder. The fur at her stomach was covered with red blood as it dripped out of her stomach. She let out another cry, as if she has gone hysterical, and went towards the wall. “Bang!”. The wall collapsed.

I was in shock. I could not recall how I left this brutal place.

To Knit a Pullover for Penguins…The Story does not End here!

Hi, as I learned there are extraordinary people knitting for animals in need! Please, read more here:

As you may be aware the oil spill & potential disastrous effects to wildlife & environment off the coast of Tauranga is frightening.  A small number of little blue penguins have already been caught in the oil spilled to date with growing fears that more will be effected. Skeinz has been asked to help with the penguin relief by knitting small Penguin PJ’s to help protect the birds & prevent them from preening their feather & ingesting the toxic oil.  If you can help out by knitting a penguin jumper – send them to Skeinz at the address below.

Penguin Power

Cast off.
Stitch up sides to decreasing to 27sts (opening for flipper). Add elastic to the top and bottom to prevent the penguins getting out of them. Top: 15cm of elastic; bottom 17 cm (knots allowed). Flat elastic OK.

Thank you to Charlie – one of our Skeinz regulars who knitted her penguin jumper & supplied us with this pic.

And not enought with this: they even had another idea: GREAT!

Two Worlds of Circus: Glimpse on one, Horror on the other

Ringling Brothers: The Saddest Show on Earth
Posted in Humane Education
Recommend this Story to your Friends on Facebook

Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey Circus is coming to Washington State with animals, entertainment, and a record of animal abuse and neglect. When entertainment is placed center stage and ethics are “secondary,” the animals are always the ones who suffer. Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey has a long history of animal mistreatment, but you can help put this three-ring abuse to an end.

Is this really entertaining?
Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey Circus boast entertainment that includes awesome elephants, beautiful big cats, gorgeous horses, and elegant exotics – but at what cost to the animals? Ringling’s website notes that “Davinci performs with a feathered flock of eight rare and colorful birds including African Greys, Cockatoos, and Macaws,” and that the “winged performers take flights of fantasy around the arena.” The website further states, “Most impressive of all, watch our treasured Asian elephants just a few feet away from your seat.”

Several undercover investigations have found that trainers beat these “treasured” members of the circus – and there is ample video footage to corroborate these reports. If members of Ringling Brothers beat their “treasured” elephants, we shudder to think about how they treat the other members of their circus. And when the elephants don’t comply with the trainers’ requests immediately, bull hooks are placed in their sensitive skin, where they are yanked and compelled to move. These animals exhibit multiple stereotypies, which are repetitious, potentially self-soothing stereotypical behaviors indicative of extreme stress. Stereotypies are often the artifact of captivity and commonly seen stereotypies include swaying and foot banging.

At Pasado’s Safe Haven, we advocate for all animals, condoning kindness, compassion, and accountability for all people and organizations that work with animals. When an organization has consistently treated their animals with blatant disregard and neglect, failing to meet even minimum standards of care, Pasado’s takes notice – and we hope that you do, too.

In September, the Ringling Brothers Circus has numerous venues in Washington State. They will be bringing along numerous animals, entertainment, and a questionable ethical history. What is considered by some to be wonderful family entertainment is in actuality an abusive and neglectful situation for its animal participants. The Ringling Brothers Circus isn’t just a venue of entertainment – it’s also an organization that has a long history of animal mistreatment.

According to PETA, the Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey Circus beats, pokes, prods, and jabs their elephants with sharp hooks, often until they are bloody. Circus workers attempt to break the spirit of the elephants when they are still vulnerable babies, unable to resist and without their mothers’ loving protection. Ringling Brothers Circus trainers force the baby elephants to learn tricks in a cruel and inhumane manner – not with the purported reward system that they claim to use. And now this abusive company who capitalizes on cruelty for the sake of entertainment is coming to Washington State.

Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus travel more than 25,000 miles over the course of 11 months each year. According to Ringling’s own records, elephants are chained for more than 26 hours straight and are sometimes chained for as many as 60 to 100 hours. Other animals fare no better. In July of 2004, a young lion named Clyde died when he was traveling with Ringling. Clyde was in a poorly ventilated boxcar while the circus crossed the Mojave Desert. Temperatures exceeded 100 degree Fahrenheit and Clyde likely died from heatstroke and dehydration: a prolonged, excruciating way to die. Prior to Clyde’s death, two tigers from Ringling injured themselves when they attempted to escape from their cages in their overheated boxcar.

Circuses do not have to exploit animals, however: animal-free circuses are growing in popularity, and these humane alternatives provide equal and ethical entertainment value for circus patrons. Bindlestiff Family Cirkus offers a vaudeville-like show that performs at festivals and offers workshops and exhibitions. Circus Center provides an exquisitely choreographed performance, incorporating acrobatics, aerial work, and dance. Circus Center also provides scholarships to low-income children to attend its annual circus camp, distributing free tickets to nonprofit organizations. Circus Finelli provides a slapstick cabaret routine and Circus of the Kids is all about children: all of their performers are children, and the circus allows the children to become the stars of the show. Cirque du Soleil is a stunning show of athleticism and has won more than 100 awards and distinctions for the originality of its performances. Imperial Circus of China is another award-winning ethical alternative and it has played an important role in cultural exchanges between China and other nations.

Let Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey know that you do not condone the unethical treatment of animals. Entertainment does not have to come at the cost of animal welfare, and numerous circuses have found ethical and entertaining alternatives. Join Pasado’s Safe Haven in protesting Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus’ presence in the Pacific Northwest. NARN is hosting several protests against the circus and encourages concerned citizens to join the protest.

Entertainment should never have to compromise a living being’s quality of life. Thanks to the support of readers like you, Pasado’s will strive to help those who would otherwise fall through the cracks – acting as a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Thank you – from all of the animals here at Pasado’s Safe Haven and beyond.

Semper Fi. A memorial statue honoring the working dogs of 9.11.01

Today I attended the 9/11 Working Dog Recognition Ceremony at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ (across from Lower Manhattan). Finding One Another honored canine working dog teams on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. They identified more than 950 working dog teams (civilian, government, law enforcement and military) who served in response to the attacks of 9/11. These teams were involved with search and rescue, recovery and security efforts at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, Shanksville and the Fresh Kills Landfill recovery site.

Today, they were honored. I share some of the pictures I took at this ceremony.

Lining up for the procession. Lower Manhattan in the background.

Waiting for the procession to start.

Lt. David Lim of the Port Authority New York/New Jersey K-9 Unit. His dog, Sirius, was the only working dog that was killed on 9.11.01 when Tower Two collapsed.

James Crane worked on the 101st floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center .. He is blind so he has a golden retriever named Daisy.
After the plane hit 20 stories below, James knew that he was doomed, so he let Daisy go, out of an act of love. She darted away into the darkened hallway.
Choking on the fumes of the jet fuel and the smoke James was just waiting to die. About 30 minutes later, Daisy comes back along with James’ boss,
Who Daisy just happened to pick up on floor 112

On her first run of the building, she leads James, James’ boss, and about 300 more people out of the doomed building.
But she wasn’t through yet, she knew there were others who were trapped. So, highly against James’ wishes she ran back in the building.

On her second run, she saved 392 lives. Again she went back in. During this run, the building collapses. James hears about this and falls on his knees into tears.

Against all known odds, Daisy makes it out alive, but this time she is carried by a firefighter. “She led us right to the people, before she got injured” the fireman explained.

Her final run saved another 273 lives. She suffered acute smoke inhalation, severe burns on all four paws, and a broken leg, but she saved 967 lives. Daisy is the first civilian Canine to win the Medal of Honor of New York City.

Cloning Heroism By Andrea, For the Love of the Dog – on September 10th, 2011  Remember this picture? It’s one of the famous pictures taken of search and rescue teams at Ground Zero. This is Trakr and his partner, Halifax Regional Police Officer James Symington. They were one of the first K9 search and rescue teams to arrive at Ground Zero. Trakr found the last survivor buried beneath the collapsed towers, Genelle Guzman, the fifth and final survivor found in the rubble on Sept. 12, 2001. For his heroic efforts, Trakr was presented with the United Nations Extraordinary Service to Humanity Award by Dr. Jane Goodall and was featured in books and magazines dedicated to 9/11 heroes. In April 2009, Trakr died peacefully of old age at his home. He was 16 years old. He spent 10 years with James Symington, and they formed a bond that could not be broken. This bond was so strong that a year before his death, a little bit of Trakr was preserved before he was to depart. His DNA. Trakr had been trained in the Czech Republic and had joined the police force in 1995 at the age of 14 months. Trakr worked for the department for six years, finding over $1 million in contraband, as well as finding missing people and helping in arresting hundreds of criminals. Symington and Trakr left Canada abruptly when they saw the televised coverage of the World Trade Center attacks. Abruptly as in AWOL. Seems Symington forgot to clear it with the boss. Once back home, Symington was suspended. Symington had also filed grievances with the Halifax Police Force over their proposed policy to euthanize dogs when they are retired from the force’s canine unit. Trakr was retired early and Symington left the force. When all was done with his troubles with the police force, Symington and his family moved to Los Angeles, where he took a job in the entertainment industry. He soon learned of a contest being conducted by BioArts International (a biotech corporation in San Francisco) that was looking for the “World’s Most Clone-Worthy Dog” called the Clone Worthy Giveaway. At that point, Trakr was 15 years old and was suffering from degenerative myelopathy, a neurological disease, and lost use of his hind legs. Symington beat 200 other entrants to win a free cloning of his beloved animal, with BioArts. The goal was to produce one clone, but as an added bonus, he got four additional cloned puppies. All were produced at the Sooam Biotech Foundation, a laboratory in South Korea. In his winning essay Symington wrote that “once in a lifetime, a dog comes along that not only captures the hearts of all he touches but also plays a private role in history.” That’s five new genetic replicas of Trakr. Trakr’s replicas were born between December 2008 and April 2009 and live with Symington as part of his Team Trakr Foundation. Team Trakr Foundation is a humanitarian, 501(c) 3 organization committed to training and deploying K9 search and rescue (SAR) teams across the United States and around the world. The dogs, called Team Trakr are being trained to find live victims who are lost, trapped or missing due to any emergency or disaster. Their training included five months of obedience, agility, tracking, disaster search and rescue, and area and building searches. Eventually, Team Trakr will complete their training regimen and be available on a volunteer-basis to assist other SAR organizations and first responders during life-saving missions. To ensure Trakr’s duplicates keep the most desired traits of their original, Team Trakr employs the talents of the dog trainer who originally trained Trakr. In John Woestendiek’s book, Dog, Inc. (yes, that John Woestendiek, of Ohmidog!) he explores the reasons behind the desires to clone your most loyal and bestest friend. Is it to preserve your long, lost love? Deny yourself the pain of grieving? Attention? What is it that we are so afraid of that we need to replicate something so unique and precious. Sounds like cloning our dogs is more of a selfish human act than anything else. I have not read the book, but looks like I will be putting it on my list. I’m not dismissing the merits of The Team Trakr Foundation. These pups will no doubt become expert rescue animals by the traits they were given from their…template. I sincerely wish the Foundation success. That’s right, you see six. One more genetic double was added. A female. I’m sure, biologically, it is plausible for male-to-female cloning. Pretty sure. Sort of…maybe… For me, the jury is still out on this whole cloning business. There is something to be said for “It’s better to have loved and lost”. We are all products of our environment, even animals. Cloning alone will not ensure the best of the original traits and tendencies will be preserved. Or suppress the worst of them. If you don’t believe me, go watch this movie – The Boys from Brazil.
