Poisons and Poaching: A Deadly Mix Requiring Urgent Action – News Watch.

Posted by Darcy Ogada of The Peregrine Fund in Explorers Journal on August 17, 2014

Darcy Ogada has studied the animals of Africa for a long time, but this might be the worst of times yet. She is fighting to document and put a stop to a new form of hunting and poaching: poisoning. The poisons make for easy money in selling animal parts to eastern Asian markets, but they have tragic consequences for any other animals that disturb the corpses of elephants and rhinos.

Last Sunday, two elephants silently succumbed to poisoning outside Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia. In mid-July, four jumbos were poisoned in Zambezi National Park, Zimbabwe when their salt lick was laced with cyanide. This was reminiscent of the decimation of 103 elephants through cyanide poisoning in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe in October…

ENGLISH:These videos showing how the vast majority of pigs are treated upon arrival at a slaughterhouse. They are exhausted and water-deprived. During the winter, still-lactating sows may become frozen to the sides of the trailer or suffer from frostbite. During the summer, the animals experience heat exhaustion and fatigue. Some develop congestive heart failure or become downers.

Because of the poor design of most trailers, pigs from the belly of the trailer are forced to climb steep ramps they cannot see the end of. The pigs balk, which causes the drivers to become frustrated. The drivers angrily and randomly jab their electric prods into the mass of jostling, piling and screaming pigs. It is a federal offense to use an electric prod on a pig’s face or genitals but drivers thrusting their prods into small portholes, unable to clearly see what they are hitting, routinely shock pigs on these sensitive areas.

Please, support the fight against CAFOs followed by the consequences as there are mass-animal-transports and mass-slaughterhouses. They are “Darkest Places in Universe”, inhuman and graceless places.

Stop them in the name of our children, human´s and animals´, and in the name of our environment: we cannot live without one another.

Drenched with Blood

The main reason animals suffer so horribly  in slaughterhouses is that they must be alive  when their throats are slit so that their still- beating hearts can pump the blood out of  their bodies and partially dry up their flesh.  If they were killed by some other means and  then their corpses were cut up, the flesh  would be so drenched with blood that.no one would want to eat it.”

American Wild Horse Preservation (AWHPC)
November 2014

We have some wonderful news to share with you regarding the fate of 31 Virginia Range mustangs who were captured by the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) and are currently being held at the Carson City Prison. All 31 wild horses have found homes and have been saved from the slaughter auction! And the best news of all — the families will be placed together!

Bond and his family are being adopted by the Reno-based Virginia Range Wild Horse Sanctuary.

The “Fernley 10” will have a wonderful life with 650 other rescued wild mustangs at the Mustang Monument Eco Resort and Preserve near Elko, Nevada.

The “Lockwood 7” are going to the mountains of eastern Tennessee to the Treadway Equine Animal Rescue Sanctuary (TEARS).

The “Stagecoach 6” are headed back to Stagecoach to the Starlight Sanctuary.

The “Dayton 3” – including a beautiful blue-eyed, buckskin foal – are being adopted by Steadfast Steeds in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Contributions from generous AWHPC supporters have made this rescue possible. This was a true community rescue effort involving Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund and other coalition partners in Northern Nevada, our founding organization Return to Freedom, the wonderful rescues and sanctuaries that have stepped up to help these horses, and the thousands of AWHPC supporters who spread the word, donated funds and networked to find these horses homes.

When we pull together, miracles can happen!

Church Bells Blues – Luke Jordan (1927)

mostly music

Luke JordanLuke Jordan (January 28, 1892 – June 25, 1952) was an American blues guitarist and vocalist of some renown in his local area of Lynchburg, Virginia.

He was born in Appomattox County, Virginia, United States, and his professional career started at age 35, when he was noticed by Victor Records. He went to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1927 to record several records. These records sold moderately well, and Victor decided to take Jordan to New York in 1929, for two more sessions. He recorded very few known tracks in his career.

Two Scenarios

“If you were alone on a deserted island

with a pig, would you eat the pig or
starve to death?”
“Hmm. If you were not alone, living on a
planet with 7 billion people, had access to
unlimited fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans,
and other healthy foods, and knew animals
suffer and die horrible deaths so you could
eat them when you don’t need to eat them
to survive, would you continue to eat them?
The difference between our questions is that
your scenario will never happen and mine is
the choice you face right now. Which do you
believe is worth answering?”
